time line for requesting UnCOS

Hi , i hope anyone can shed some light on this. My visa expires on 19 nov 2012 . My employer is yet to request an allocation for Unrestricted Cos for this year for me.
Can anyone please let me know

(1) If there is any time limit, before which my employer cant request the UnCOS, or my employer is free to make the request for the quota of UnCOS anytime?

(2) Currently how long is it taking to get the UnCOS quota ?

A quick response is highly appreciated. I tried searching on the UKBA website but cannot find a definitive answer

you can make a request any time. Early is better. Go ahead and ask your HR to make a request. But once assigned to you it has to be used in 3months
