HI Guys,

I did my biometrics on March 16th in Oxford and I decided to call the UKBA today to see if they could give me any updates. They cannot since it has not been 6 months. they did however, tell me to contact my case worker (this should be on the biomtrics invite) and see if they can expedite it or give me more info. I also inquired again about work status. I seem to get different answers depending on who I speak to. This time, I was told that I can only work 20 hours /week "since it is clearly not holiday time". I argued that I have geraduated and they still said that since it is not a holiday I can only work for 20 hours. I am working more then 20 hours. What should I do? Stop working? (if so how do I eat and pay rent? while I continue to wait for the visa to process? I asked the UKBA person and they had no reply:) At this point, I am tempted to believe that the person I spoke to at UKBA today was an imbicle, and that I am allowed to work full time as long as my visa was in process before it expired. ANyone have any thoughts? Thanks!

I am new to this web, I applied on 3rd March, biometric done in 28th of March at PO in Sheffield, still waiting,
did you say you had your biometric done on 21st or 23rd of March?
Thanks
Mas

Hey
I gave Biometrics on 21st march..i think u should get ur visa nd docs within 2 weeks. :D
Hey, ##

Plz some one advise me as i am not able to wait like this and loose my future. I could see in this blog loads of people who applied after me got BRP and docs.

What do you mean by special case ? Elobrate on this, i need to know as what it is, when every one from the University are going through same procedure on talking about statutary conditions (psw). I mean, the check list is same. ( psw visa letter from uni, degree certificates orginal/ grade transcripts original, £ 800 savings for 3 months, 2 pp photos, £ 594 visa fee payment, brp payment £ 19.20)... evry one does the same, then why the hell few people are thrown to 'special cases' list ( like thrown in dust bin) and have to wait for h*ell a lot of time..

Date of application : 10th feb 2012,
acknowledgement letter (dt) : 14th feb
fee taken : 16th feb 2012 (mode : bankers draft, national westminster)
acknowledgement received : 19th feb 2012
******************
Now, look at the BRP

bio metric letter (dt) : 18th apr 2012
bio metric letter recived : 23rd apr 2012
bio metric registered : 23rd apr 2012 ( same day)
earls court, london

nothing as of now..

to get bio metric, i called them every week from 3rd week of feb till 2nd week of apr 2012..

on top of it, emails, fax, and chase up from university ( visa and immigration divison)... thats is why 23rd apr i recived bio mteric , if not they would have taken 1 yr to send it ..

Karthik, your application is considered only once you have given the biometrics. So no matter when you applied, If you gave your biometrics on 23rd April, thats when your file would have gone into the queue for consideration. Now it is unfortunate that the gap between your application is very huge but be aware that yours is not the only case like this. I know at least 2 friends who had to first wait a month for the acknowledgement letter and then another month for the biometrics. So reality is no matter what you do or say here, its not going to affect your application in any possible manner unless of course you want to withdraw your application which I am made to believe is taking 20 days currently!

@ aftabkhan812 ---

dude, i have done all the hard work and this is really painfull, i struggled hard to get a standing offer from Rothchild, Central london branch.... for a investment banking opening which starts from Sep 2012 ... Its an internship, later can possibly turned into permanent employment in frankfurt, Rothchild.

although, i have had 2.8 yrs of investment banking experience (back office, citi bank uk wealth managemnt) which is india based and now with an MBA, i should possibly look for an analyst role in trade control ( specilizing in commodities, risk, equity) ....

on considering the job market, and pay rates, i'm only trying for tier 2 and tier 3 firms within investment banking like rothchild, black rock, hsbc, jb morgan etc...

i am not even looking for a graduate management role and looking for paid internship which is converted into full time permanent position..

because of this visa issue from the home office, i missed out a similar opportunity with an investment bank in bristol, west england..

i spend lot of money to get there form london before 3 months and cleared all rounds and went down to final 20 for the assesment day invitation from the employer..

i cleared that too and becaue my student visa expired and told them that i applied of rpsw and awaiting a decison, due to back log its taking longer than expected they were notl istening to what i said and all my efforts have gon edown..

if i apply to 70 ib jobs i get only 2 to 3 interview calls ( 3:70) is my ratio... when can i expect a decision on my application.. as its 10 months since i pass out form my MBA..

Its so painful and at this stage i dont want to give up.. even if i do that, i had to wait for 24 working days to get passort and docs back,.. its of no use..

as per your understanding and assumption when i will get decision on my application (bio metric - registered 24th apr 2012)..

let me know plz, pl who had a similar situation on reading this will also be benefited from your advise as me..

Hey Karthik, dude I cant feel sorry enough for your situation seriously !! I really really sympathize with you and I wish I could tell you when your wait will end but unfortunately , I dont think anyone here has the slightest clue of when their misery will end! Just one thing for you, DONT LOSE HOPE and dont base your case on others news and information.. , each case is unique, for all you know you might get ypurs tomorrow and people who have done it earlier will get it later..!! Its all dependent on how efficient your case worker might be :P and of course lady luck .! Have faith in God and pray things work out for you fast.!! ANd always remember, everything happens for a reason..!!! Feel better soon bud .!!

Thanks for those encouraging words dude. I'm 100% sure that my application is still waiting in the backlog with 100's/1000's/100,000's ( god only knows which is it exactly) of other applications who've applied during the closure of the employment route (Mar 20th to Apr 5th 2012). Its really unfair to put my file under their files. My University visa and Immigration advisor has got a email id of few people from Sheffiled office but she refused to share thier contact details with some reason or the other. Anyways, i dont really give a f*uck about her as she clearly mention the university will help only on going students and not the students who've passed out.

She makes sense from business perspective, as she wont recieve any money for this service and the visa and immigration team only care about TIER 4 Student Visas because they want as much of applications to go through ( in terms of entry clearence from their home countries)

However, coming to my case ... i am very sure that its not alloted to a CASE WORKER yet and she has confirmed that to me in writing..

Hi, how did you come up with 3 weeks, does this mean they are working the whole week for the biometric enrolled on one day? I have also given biometrics on 28th of March & I am very desperate to travel. thx

Hi guys, I have enrolled my biometrics on 23 rd march, still I am uncertain how long it will take. My perception is it will take 1-2 weeks for 23 march only, as at the moment no one who did biometrics on 23 march have received anything. I also saw a pattern in biometric registration like 16th march 19 march 21 march 23 march 25 march 27 and 28 march most of the people have submitted on these dates as all received letters in like a series of bundle. So I think for 28 march it might take quiet more longer. Rest is in the hands of god

If you have copies of your documents -- which you SHOULD, since it would be really silly not to make copies of everything before you sent it all in -- you can give those to your employer and they should be able to check with the UKBA that you have a standing application with them. I gave in my PSW application acknowledgement letter along with the copies of my old visa and my passport, and I've been working on a fixed-term basis at what will become my full-time permanent job once I receive the visa.

Just because you don't have the original documents does not mean you can't work. Any employer who says this is wrong.
Thank you so much for this post... My psw application is in process. I am offered a fixed-time contract job (for 2 years - till my psw visa expires) and the employer wants me to join next week. Your post guides me what I need to do... Thanks again :)
What I did was this: I assured them that because the visa is points-based, and I have the points necessary and have never submitted false information or committed fraud on an application with the UKBA, I will be getting the visa. Of course, there is still a chance I won't get it, but you have to think about yourself in these situations!

I then asked if they could hire me on a fixed-term basis until I get the visa in the mail, and then switch over to a permanent position. They were fine with this and offered me a contract saying that I was hired for this job temporarily while I wait for my visa and will be a permanent employee when my visa arrives. I supplied copies of my old visa, passport, acknowledgement letter, and diploma for them, and let them know how to verify with the UKBA as to whether I made an application for a new visa while my old one was still valid.

Once this was all checked out, everything was fine! You can work as many hours as you want while you wait, so the employer does not have to worry about hour restrictions (as long as you aren't still studying!).

Good luck!
You are lucky to get such a nice employer kjkansas. But my employer is not really happy with this idea. They say that I can start only after getting my PSW. I have lost my hope about this job now. Me and my employer communicate through a recruitment agency which might have caused some misunderstanding. The only thing which I can do now is 'wait for the PSW' and continue cursing UKBA. :(
