what a hopeless turnout this week. we could do with more weeks like the week before.

Yeah, I was hoping OCT1STILRSETO and gvijaygadde would get theirs based on their updates earlier ... and then I would float to #3 on Set O.  Wouldn't want to get stuck like MiraclePrayer or speed120 though! I hope they get theirs soon ... and others too who have been eagerly waiting (including those who are silently reading and choose not to post ... it's been an equally hopeless week for new ones added to the Waiting list too!)

Thanks chemike15. I am hoping mine comes soon. It's been a long wait (wrong choice of screen name!) and then someone will need to take over.

Still waiting

Post by balu114 » Mon May 28, 2012 10:26 am

I called UKBA this morning and managed to get hold of someone after 15 minutes of Vivaldi on a loop.

I applied on the 11-Nov-2011 and I have told that the application has not been complete but has been processed (what's the difference?) but I will have to wait. And as expected, they can't give me a timeline. Grrrr.....

As you can expect from UKBA, not a very helpful response is it? I don't understand why they have taken more than 6 months and can't even tell you what's going on? Was it a complicated application balu114?

I don't think it's complicated at all. 2.5 years on WP + 3 years on Tier 1. I have only spent less than 2 months outside UK in 5 years.

It's all straight forward!

Very often the application is passed onto people in stages. The person you speak to over the phone is not the caseworker. After the caseworker has finished assessing the application it is then passed onto someone else to issue the ILR. Then it is passed onto someone else to handle the posting of it. No one in this chain is able to commit to a time when you will receive your passports back. The only information available is what is updated on the system. In the end, the operator you speak to over the phone can only tell you what someone else has updated, not knowing who the other person is. I think it is unreasonable to expect one office serving hundreds of thousands of applications to try and follow up on everyone who calls every day because that will only slow the process down due to re-allocation of resources.

For an application costing close on £1000, I do expect to be kept updated. Think how many 'applications' Amazon get each day and they can give you an up to the second update on any purchase!

Poor software, poor management, inadequate staffing levels all go together to make the process a lousy 'experience'! The government admit it costs only £200 or so to process the average application.

The system should be able to track each application from the minute the paperwork arrives until long after the passports arrive back with the applicant.

bob-russell, you have said exactly what I was going to say! If only they could clearly explain (in a document on the website somewhere) and indicate the different stages in processing. E.g. Stage 1: Received application, Stage 2: Payment cleared, Stage 3: Reviewing applications, Stage 4: Checking docs etc. Then all they need to tell us when we phone is application is currently at Stage X. Or better still - have it online where we can log in with a secure number and nobody needs to be manning that awful Vivaldi phone.

I agree. I have been very patient and I never called them before the 6 month deadline passed. I haven't written to MP or bombarded UKBA with emails. But it's more than 6 months now! I am just expecting them to meet their own service standards.

As an honest tax payer, legal immigrant that I have the right to know when I would receive my passport.

I do understand that the operator can only see so much and I am not whining about her. I am talking about the business process! How hard would it be to make these available online? Not very!!

When I said it was unreasonable to expect them to provide personal service to each individual, it does not mean that it's the right service to provide to people who are paying so much money for the ILR in addition to waiting 6 months. It's just giving them the benefit of the doubt in a system that needs improvement.

I agree that the system needs to be improved and a better way of recordig the pregress should be made but looking at the current system and resources available, there simply doesn't seem to be much more the UKBA can do until a better process is put in place. Perhaps the UKBA will benefit from adopting a similar system as Amazon but until then, they are faced with limitations in their current processes.

Excellent suggestions .. Really hope someone from ukba looks at this forum from time to time.. Might make them more *shudder to think Of it * EFFICIENT!? Oh no but that will ruin the ukba brand positioning wouldn't it? Being made to suffer is an integral part of the customer experience!

Documents posted 14th May 2012 - today 28th May 2012 - I called UKBA again today - they echoed same old story - it got nothing to do with UKBA - speak to Royal Mail.

For UKBA to look into this matter, one have to wait 4 weeks since documents dispatched.

After 6.5 months - UKBA wants 4 weeks to post back our documents.

What a lovely situation....
Application posted:1st November 2011
Docs dispatched:14 MAY 2012
Docs received : .... not yet, have to wait for 3 more weeks to find.

excellent standards... no one can dare to question...

Visa update

Post by Skirty » Tue May 29, 2012 12:54 pm

Hi All - just wanted to update you on my timeline:

Applied SETM 27 February 2012
Money taken out: 28 February 2012
Letter received: 1 March
ILR Granted: 16 May
Passport received: 29 May

So funny, they didn't manage to stick my vignette ON the page, quite abit of it is hanging off the page, with loads of space at the top where the visa should be. Just glad to have my passport back, really. Even if i get my fingers sticky now, paging through it. Good luck everyone!!
