Does anybody know what the consequense are for the perpetrators of a "marriage of convenience" if found out?

You mean apart from perjury and offences under the Immigration Acts? Offences that could mean a lengthy prison sentence.

Strange question ... why do you ask?

It falls to be prosecuted by the Crown Court under Section 24A of the 1971 Immigration Act and the sentencing authority is 9 to 12 months imprisonment even if a guilty plea is entered.

Where there are exceptional mitigating factors, it can be prosecuted by a magistrates' court where Section 15 of the Theft Act of 1988 would be used.

Both instances have judicial history.
