Hi guys,
I have recently got married in pakistan and the got the good news about the changes in the law from teresa may. I have got a question that i need help with.

1. Is the benchmark £18600 before or after tax?
2. I can earn upto £22000 a year but earned alot less last year, does that affect my case to call my wife over?

It still makes no sense my freibd what is minimum income threshold, i aint got a clue and i know life aint fair but you get up and do something about it

Yes, as £18,600 is less than £19,200

Imelf employed mate what documents will i need to complete my sponsor
Ie 6months bank statements etc etc

I think as long as you can give evidence that you are self employed by registering with HMRC, trade receipts and a letter from your accountant to confirm income for past 6 months and estimated income from next six months you can apply for your wife. you must show that you have regular income in your bank statements.

BUT wait for confirmation of this from senior members, who know more than me.

No, that is not correct.

According to statement of intent, if the sponsor is self employed, then they must produce last years tax return to prove £18600 income. No estimates or accountant letters are acceptable.

Using my calculator, I deducted 19200 from 18600 and I got -600.

How would they give a visa for income of -600 pounds?

How did you get -600, 19200 is my gross income after deductions before tax mate, they are not going to charge me 18600 tax from 19200

asim72, I have absolutely no idea how you are making your calculation! If someone earns £19,200 per annum they are £600 above the minimum annual income required.

Gross income means 'earnings before tax' which in Ishy's case = £19,200.
More than the required level.

I usually avoid posting text instead of a link, but to make it easier for you, these are the rules for self-employed sponsors:
164. In respect of earnings from self-employment:
• There must be evidence of ongoing self-employment at the point of application.
• In demonstrating the required level of income to meet the financial requirement,
earnings from self-employment can be combined with income from another
source(s), including salaried employment, for the relevant financial year(s).
• The sponsor (or the applicant where they are in the UK) must be registered as
self-employed in the UK.
• Employment can be cash-in-hand if the correct tax is paid.
• Where the self-employed person is a sole trader or is in a partnership or
franchise agreement, the income will be the gross taxable profits from their share
of the business. Allowances or deductable expenses which are not taxed will not
be counted towards income.
• Where the self-employed person has set up their own registered company and is
listed as a director of that company, the income that will be assessed will be any
salary drawn from the post-tax profits of the company
