Child Benefit and Holidays

Post by hpgalliford » Mon May 21, 2012 4:42 pm

Hi Guys

Me and my Wife are on ILR since Nov 2011 and my son 1.5 yrs has BC (via MN1)
We have recently applied for child benefit (in my name) and received the letter this morning confirming that we will be paid soon.

The question here is, My wife along with my son will be travelling back home for about 4 months. Do we have to cancel the Child benefit during this time and claim again when she returns? or do we have to let the Child benefit line know about this or just keep on receiving the benefit as normal.

Kindly advise

s.uk where did you source this information....or is this another 'guess'? If you're not sure of the answer, wrong advice could have serious consequences for the member posting the query.

hpGalliford....contact HMRC as Greenie has advised.

Temporarily' means you don't expect to be away for more than 52 weeks from the time you leave. If you go abroad temporarily, you can still get your Child Benefit payments

and 52 weeks is less then four months 8)

Often due to errors made by members who give incorrect information.
52 weeks = permanent
more than 8 weeks - temporary

This is from the Direct Gov link given by Vinny, which s.uk doesn't appear to have understood.

If you or your child are about to leave the UK for a period of more than eight weeks, you must tell the Child Benefit Office as soon as possible. You need to let them know as soon as you can before you go to prevent any overpayments occurring.

There are different online forms to use, depending on whether you're going abroad:

temporarily - for more than eight weeks
permanently, this means you're likely to be away for more than 52 weeks
