Break clause in house rental agreement renewal.

Hello,

It's going to be a year since we moved into this apartment and the 12 month rental agreement originally had a 6 month break clause, ie., we can't move out within 6 months of moving in.

Now, it's time for renewal of contract and the landlord again want a 6 month break clause in the new contract, now is that fair ? Is it not normal that we are free to move out giving 1 months notice ?

Is this normal ? Just want to know if this the norm in London / other parts in the UK ?

In my experience it has always been 1 or 2 months notice, this was in London. 6 months seems rather excessive to me.

The new contract depends on the landlord - some of them let you be on a rolling contract after the initial contract period in up in which case you can give a 1 month's notice and leave anytime where as others might want you to sign another fixed term contract which could be any length from 3 months to a year.
