What if Emergency Travel during OCI Application process

Hi,

I was redirected to this forum to ask my query. Hence posting this here.

I understand that it would take atleast 4 to 5 weeks (as per the current timelines) or even more for me to

1) surrender the Indian passport and get the surrender certificate
2) to get the OCI


But, if a person would require some emergency travel to India during this time, what are the options available?.. at that time, we would be only holding the British Passport and all the cancelled
Indian passports.

Can some one enlighten me on this front?... If any body had such circumstances to travel during this time, please let me know what
is the procedure that should be followed.
