How important is it to submit latest P60?

Post by bassem » Mon Jul 23, 2012 1:36 pm

The new rules require a sponsor to submit their latest P60.

This year HMRC told employers to give their employees their P60s by 31 May.

If P60s are a must to include with your application, does this mean that people are going to have to wait until June of every year before they have all their paperwork in order?

I think you are taking this requirement to a bit too strictly.

You would provide the latest P60 that you have at hand. So, if you are submitting your application around June 2012 and you do not have your latest P60. You should be okay to provide your previous year's P60 together with your latest 6 months payslips.

Hope this helps.

What if you weren't earning at least £18,600 at the time that your last P60 was issued?

Would bank statements and pay slips suffice?

If you do not have your P60 at hand and to show your income requirements you would need other means of proving your yearly income. These can be done through:

Your payslips (usually also contain your pay 'upto now', so in total how much you have been for the financial year up to that payslip month/week)
Your employer reference letter (also mention annual salary)
Bank statements showing payments referencing your payslips etc
HMRC letter (If you can request HMRC to send you a 'Tax letter' for the year, that should also outline your yearly income)

Hope this helps.

Harv,

Please be careful in what you're advising. The new guidance is quite clear about what's expected for a salaried person:

http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... iew=Binary

See section 5.5.2:
5.5.2 In respect of salaried employment, all of the following must be submitted:
• P60 (if this has been issued) and wage slips for the 6-month period prior to the
application, or as appropriate, for the 12-month period prior to the application.
• Letter from the employer confirming the person’s employment and annual salary, the
length of their employment (and the period over which they have been or were paid
the level of salary relied upon in the application), and the type of employment
(permanent, fixed-term contract or agency).
• A signed contract of employment.
• Bank statements corresponding to the same period as the wage slips, showing that
the salary has been paid into the person’s account.
There's no reference to an HMRC letter and it's clearly showing that *all* of the other elements you outline are required. You appear to be suggesting it's one or the other from your list.

It also clearly highlights that the P60 is only required if it was issued in the last 6 or 12 month period depending on what type of salaried employment category you fall under.

M.
