Days absent calculation

Dear Forum.

Please help me with this
on the an form when filling in the days i was absent how do i go about this.
If i travelled from london to southafrica but i stopped over for a few days in dubai.
In total my time away was 17days
So do i just put down southafrica as my country visited and put my departure and arrival days or do i have to break it down it london to dubai with the number of days and then dubai to southafrica?

Its the absences from UK that matter and not where you visited.

eg
you can write

Left UK 1/1/2011
arrived back 31/1/2011
visited south africa & dubai ( no need to given breakdown of days spent)
