Applying for LTR extension from Australia

Post by sjb2007 » Mon Jan 08, 2007 6:02 pm

Hiya

There is a chance i will be traveling when my current LTR (obtained under HSMP) expires. Can i

a) apply to extend my LTR from the British High Commission in Australia?
b) can a) happen if my current LTR has already expired?

or is it a case that i should do everything in my power NOT to let my LTR expire?

Thanks in advance.

You mean LTR under HSMP do not you ?.

Now there is a new rule you need to score 75 points,
You need to earn and pay tax in the UK.

Looking into how the point is awarded there is no way you could achieve 75 points without having earning in the UK.

Also under HSMP you are required to be phisycally in the UK.

Hope this information is enough for youto draw conclusion.

But you could always try if you want, though miracle might happen sometimes.

the secret piece o' missing information is whether or not OP has been in UK or not during past year.

you cant renew after FLR expires - will have to be new application

you could try doing urgent renewal prior to travelling. They assure me on phone that urgent cases can be turned around in a couple of days. You might want to find someone who can convieniently get married/die in Oz to help support your case.

Otherwise, you'll have to postpone trip.

"you cant renew after FLR expires - will have to be new application".

That's not strictly true, it would be grounds for refusal but the do have a bit of leeway to approve the application. Not worth relying on it though.

can you elaborate for the benefit of the rest of us.

i.e. where it is stated, or how long after FLR expiry someone did apply for renewal and still got it ?

Sorry I did not notice that this person FLR has expired.

There are two circumstance for straight rejection for this person:
- Expire LTR.
- Not wokring/physically in the UK.

I think, if he consider wroking in the UK, the best solution is to file up a new application.

I don't think I've ever seen it written down, they don't go out of the way to publish information like this. I was told by a friend of mine that works there, I have no reason to believe he was lying.

As far as I Know, You could only apply for extension before yout ILR is expire. After expire you need to sart from the scratcht again.
