1 1/2 + 4 1/2 WP = 10 year legal stay

Post by latansingh » Sun Jan 07, 2007 3:01 pm

I have been in UK since 2001, recently i recieved approval from my employee WP extension for 4 1/2 years, previous work permit given for 18 months. my current visa expires on the 26 mar 2007, but i want to apply in the last week because i entered the uk on the 19/sep/2001 so if ho changes rules for ILR atleast i can qualify for the 10 year rule. Should i leave it for the last week or its too close for comfort? for IED if i just take my bank statments is that enough?

Yes, you are right. You do not need to wait till 2011 to get your ILT. After working continuely for 5 years, you will qualify for it. So it should be

1 1/2 + 3 1/2 on WP = 10 legal stay.

You qualify for ILR on the basis of your work permit (5 years) OR long term stay (10 years) whichever event occurs first.

1 1/2 + 3 1/2 on WP = ILR
10 years legal stay = ILR

Any other combination such as 1.5+4.5 or 1 1/2 +3 1/2 = 10 legal stay is rather misleading.
