ILR holder; surname changed after marriage

Post by mousugu » Fri Oct 19, 2012 11:05 am

Hi,

I am Japanese and have ILR and recently married with French.
I changed my surname (submitted to Japan government) , so therefore I will need to renew my Japanese passport with my new name.
I will probably need to carry both old and new passport when I travel abroad.

But, then I realised my new passport name and ILR name will be different.
Does anyone know what to do with this? Is it going to be problem or I need to change ILR? I can't find any answer anywhere. Please help me!

Many thanks

I got ILR in 2011. Is Biometric resident permit new rule since 2012?
I don't think I have BRP. . .

You are correct. You wouldn't have BRP as UKBA only started rolling it out from 29th Feb 2012 for ILR applications.

Even though your current ILR is in the form of vignette on your passport, but when you apply for it to be transferred, you will not get it on your passport this time, instead you will be issued ILR on BRP. (as UKBA is no longer issuing ILR on passports).

Thank you very much.
I started to understand.

I found NTL (no time limit) stamp thing, that's probabry what I need to apply? That's how people change name on resident permit?!?

So, first I get new passport with new name, and then apply NTL?!
Do I need marriage certificate with application? Any other certificate required? like proof of name changed from Japanese gov? Any tips to make this process faster?!

I read a couple of thread about NTL, it sounds like it takes forever to get it...I am nervous not be able to use my passport for long period...
