discussion about UK exit controls !?

Hello,

I just had a discussion with a friend whether there are exit control when somebody is leaving the UK or not. I think there are no exit controls, am I right
For example if someone takes a flight from Heathrow to the USA, will there be a passport control through immigration officers, or only the controls from the airline?
Does anybody know?

Are you worried about the (departure) stamp in the passport or whether UKBA can access details about your departure?

No no we are UK citizens and we are not going to fly, it was only a discussion between me an friend, who asserts, that there are passport exit controls through immigration, but I think only the airline checks it. We found this forum through google and we thought maybe anybody knows. thanks

Very rarely - I would estimate I have been checked about 1 in 20 times and only at Heathrow.
