I got it!

Post by JayGee » Tue Aug 10, 2004 2:14 pm

Wow, what a good feeling I got my approved HSMP letter (dated 5 August)a few moments ago.
:D

I submitted my application on 4 March 2004. They processed the fees on 10 March 2004. In mid June I was requested to submit more details, which I have done and approval was granted on 5 August 2004.

THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HELPED AND SUPPORTED ME IN MY APPLICATION - AS WE SAY IN SOUTH AFRICA - BAIE DANKIE (THANK YOU).

So JayGee when you going to PTA ? When I got my letter I wasn't willing to wait for DHL to dilver it for, went to collect it from them in Parkview, open the packet, jumped out of the roof (My car had a sunroof), drove to High Commision, struggle to get parking for 30mins, went in, got my ticket, waited 1 hour, handed in the form and paif the money, waited another 3 hours and got my EC. They only took asked for the HSMP letter and my passport. No Interviews.

Dear JayGee

I am also a South African applicant. I contacted the British Consulate in Pretoria today.

If you go to Pretoria yourself you will obtain entry clearance the same day, whereas if you send your application to Pretoria it may take 10 days.

You should take with you:
Your decision letter
All your documents submitted for the HSMP application
3 Months Bank Statements
Proof of accomodation
Passport
2 Passport photos
R 900 processing fee

I would be grateful if you would share your Pretoria EC experience with me as hopefully I will be going soon too!

Remember they close the doors at 11am and the latest time you can make payment is 1pm, it is on their website. Also they not open on UK public or South African public holidays.

I took all the documents that astro mentioned, but they didn't wanted it. Only the letter, Photos, passport and the of course money. They money they carge are £ so they convert it to R. Make sure you take morethan enought cash. There is a vending machine on the 1st floor.

astro you already have your letter ?

Jaygee,

I join the forum in congratulating you on your success. EC issuance should be straightforward - South Africa is one of the countries with an online application/ payment system unless you fancy a trip to PTA and cost not an issue. I would rather lounge in CPT notwithstanding the recent rains 8) . Best wishes - K.

Kayalami - tx for your lovely kind words - whilst I may or may not pay - the excitement and urgency of getting EC is of paramount importance, hence a trip to Pta is worth the while.

If you apply over the internet how do they put your EC in the passport ?

They had a special a while ago, yes you had to book on their website. I think it was only valid for september bookings.

I should receive all my HSMP documents today/tomorrow by courier, so I intend applying for entry clearance on Wednesday.

I am trying to find out whether entry clearance is still being processed in one day as I would like to fly out on Wednesday evening.
I am really battling to get through to them on the phone. I need to buy my air ticket today so may just fly on Thursday to be on the safe side!

the last hurdle - phew!

Jaygee, I am currently in the Eastern Cape.

TGS, when did you obtain your entry clearance? It seems they are incredibly busy right now and not even answering their phones so I have been unable to confirm the current situation!
If I fly on Thursday night though, the flights are much more expensive so I would really like to fly on Wednesday if I knew I could definitely get entry clearance by Wednesday afternoon.

BTW, what time did you arrive at the consulate and what time did you leave with your stamped passport?
