Foreign Birth Register (FBR)

Post by danmur » Fri Nov 02, 2012 11:03 am

Hello all, first post so here we go!

I am looking to apply for Irish citizenship through my Grandmother. I am a British citizen. I have all the relevant documents from my grandmother and was looking for some help.

I have heard that you can apply online to do this? Could someone please give me some info as I would be most grateful.

Thanks a lot, Daniel.

Here is the website address for the online form:

https://www.fbr.dfat.ie/eseries/uiid121 ... fbr301.xsp

And some online guidance:

http://www.dfa.ie/home/index.aspx?id=88045

I applied for my FBR through the London Embassy earlier this year and it took around three months. The online form wasn't available then, but recently I've helped my cousin apply through the online form.

Once you have completed the form, you should save & submit it and then print. When you print the form off, you should get it signed by your witness (along with two passport photos).

A checklist will also print out saying which documents you need to post off to the London Embassy along with your form, photos and payment etc.

As I said earlier, mine took around three months, but hopefully this online form will speed things up a bit. Let me know if you have any questions
