I've noticed a lot of confusion with EEA section of the AN form and documentation needed for naturalisation. I hope that this post will clear some matters for EEA route applicants and put minds at ease.
I am a non-EEA family member who went through the EEA4 application and have had Permanent Residence sticker in my passport for over 12 months now. Today I had my NCS interview.
To give you some history - when I called the NCS initially to book my appointment what I was told was not very promising. I was asked about my EEA spouse and to bring their I.D., P60s and all the rest. Permanent Residence meant nothing to the person on the other end of the line. After checking this forum I was sure the NCS person was wrong and all I needed was the bare minimum.
Today I was pleasantly surprised. The lady was very nice and knew exactly what she was doing. She checked my passports: expired and new, acknowledged the PR sticker and compared details on the form.
She went over my form, crossing out pages which do not apply such as: Crown Service AND EEA section - YES, she crossed out the EEA section (which I left blank) because if you have PR for 12 months (EEA4 or EEA3) it means you have been free from immigration restrictions and need not prove anything from the EEA section.
She used another form, supplied to them by the UKBA, which she went through with me, ticked the bits and let me sign. It was a shorter version of AN asking about:
1. Presence in the UK 5 years ago exactly. So, 6 November 2007 ,as the form will be recieved by HO on 6 Nov 2012.
2. Convictions, fixed fines, driving offences, genocide and such...
3. Freedom from immigration for 12 months. (PR/ILR)
4. Life in the UK test
5. Days of absence
She photocopied:
1. Both my passports
2. My Life in the UK test page (I got the original back)
3. My driving licence (I.D. used for Life in the UK test)
and
4. made a copy of the AN form for me.
5. Provided the payment form for me to fill in
So in a nut-shell all I needed were:
1. My Non-EEA passport x2 (for I.D. and proof of residence in the UK)
2. Life in the UK test (to satisfy HO that I paid for it)
3. AN form (completed)
4. Payment (I used credit card)
5. Driving Licence (Proof of address and I.D. used for Life in the UK test)
So all you Non-EEA family people out there who HAVE the Permanent Residence sticker/vignette in your posession for over 12 months, this is what you will need for naturalisation. The bare minimum.
I hope this helps.
