Child British Passport and Parents on ILR

Post by vijayg » Fri Dec 21, 2012 12:07 pm

Hi,

Could someone please answer my below two questions?

1. Both me and my wife got ILR on 10-Feb-2012. So, are we eligible to apply for Naturalization/British Passport in end of 11th month that is on or after 10-Jan-2013?

2. We had a baby born in Dec-2012 in UK. So, can we apply for British Passport for the baby (after we apply for the Birth Certificate) whilst the parents are in ILR.

You help on this is much appreciated.

Thanks.

1. I believe you have to have 1 year of 'immigration restrictions removed' status, which is your ILR.

2. YES.

Hi,

Just to add, I got the British Passport Application form (for our baby) from the Post Office and I did go through the guidance book thoroughly (including the tables at the end of the book). But they have not clearly mentioned the documents required from us for the application.

If we want to apply for British Passport for our baby, could you please confirm what supporting are required to be submitted along with the Application Form?

Just to add again, we hold Indian Passport and we both are Permanent Residents in the UK.

Your help on this is much appreciated.

Many thanks.

See Q2 in Citizenship FAQs - Common Questions - Read before posting - Passport.

Also check the table in the passport guide on page 12 and table A on page 13.

Hi Jambo,

Thank you very much for the link.

I have got another quick question.

If we (parents) get OCI, is our child also eligible for OCI?

Please let me know.

Many thanks.

No idea. I'm not familiar with Indian immigration rules.
