ILR success at Cardiff + three learnings

Post by vedant12 » Mon Dec 24, 2012 2:39 pm

Dear all - wanted to thank this group for all the inputs that helped us prepare for our successful ILR application in Dec.

Our case was WP (2008-2009), Tier 2 ICT (2009-11) and Tier 1 thereafter. Carried documents as suggested by this group
1. Applicaton form
2. Life in the UK certificate
3. Cohab docs - rent agreement, council tax letter (since we did not have our statement),
4. 12 months bank statements and payslips
5. Birth certificates of children and marriage certificate
6. 5 years' P60
7. Letter from employer confirming my job title and salary

3 learnings:
1. Our appointment was on 12th Dec and we hadn't received our Nov bank statement yet. There was some confusion whether the latest bank statement had to be < 1 month from date of application and on reading the guidance notes, it was clarified that this requirement was only for Tier 2 holders. In any case, we kept an internet statement from Oct end till date of application handy. The case worker asked for the internet statement and Nov payslip.

2. We realised after the application that we could have avoided getting an ILR for our second child who was born in UK and directly applied for his British passport once our ILR was sanctioned. Other members in a similar situation could use this learning.

3. We got our original appointment for a later date by staying up till midnight. Later, as we were looking for earlier slots, we kept trying around 6 pm UK and got an earlier slot on one of the weekends. I guess this would have been a last minute cancellation.

Rest of the process was quite straightforward. The documents were collected around 1130 and biometrics completed. We were then asked to come back around 1530 at which time the decision was communicated.

Good luck to future members![/list]
