Spouse Visa Advice: living with Parents

Post by Assad » Mon Feb 12, 2007 4:11 pm

hi guys

I intend to sponsor/apply for my wife's visa.

I am living with my parents and we live in a council house. Its a four bedroom house and we would be 7 people altogether when my wife joins us.
Is this accomodation accepted; if so what evidence do I need to provide?

thanks in advance

Not counting any Spam, bathroom or toilet, whatever their size, how many rooms in the place exceed 50 square feet in size? Yes you might need to grab a tape measure!

And those 7 people, how many of them will be adults, and how many children, and as regards the children, how old?

thanx for ur reply John

6 rooms other than bathroom/toilet/Spam!
this includes 4 bedrooms and 2 reception/sitting rooms.

All 7 would be adults.

i'm pretty sure it wouldnt be classified as over crowded..

Im unsure of whether my parents not owning the house (council's house) would be a problem and what documents would be needed

How many of the adults are couples?

Assad, the detailed rules are mentioned in this topic. So with 6 "counting rooms", clearly there will be a lot less than 12 people living there.

Would it be correct to think that you and your wife will have the exclusive use of one of the bedrooms?

Your parents being tenants? They need to get written permission from their landlord, the Council, to your wife moving in.

Yeah, i read that thread earlier..

yes, we would have the exclusive use of one of the bedrooms.

ok so my parents would need to get written permission from the council which would work as evidence of accomodation!

i might sound silly now, but is it really necessary to get a letter from the council..would a letter just from my parents be insufficient?

Assad, before saying categorically that the Council needs to provide a letter, let's just consider the terms and conditions of the tenancy. Your parents probably have a booklet from the Council detailing those terms and conditions.

What is said about the tenant inviting other people to live in the house?

the agreement does not say anything about inviting people..

however, it does say that council has to be notified if the number of people living in the house changes..

I would request a letter from the council to provide a letter..thats the safest option

thankyou very much for your advice John :)
