How early/late can i apply for Tier1 extension

Hi Experts,

My T1 general expires on 23rd March 2013. What is the best time should i apply for extension. A month before? 2 months before? or 3 months before? (considering new extended visa's expiry dates).

PEO is expensive and difficult to get an appointment. Is it okay if I apply by post?

When to apply.

If you need to travel soon and need your passport, then PEO appointment is suggested, however, as you may know, it's difficult to get an appointment. Otherwise, postal application is fine - you may post off your application any time up until your visa expires, but it's probably best to do it about a month before.

I would not make any travel plans for 4-6 months. (Preferably no travel plans if you can until you have everything back).
