Travel for a minor without his mother

Hello,

I would like to ask some question about my child travel.
me, my husband and my son are Indonesian passport holder.
I am on Tier 1, my son is my dependant and my husband has his own Tier 2 visa.
I am currently applying for my ILR. As my son born in the UK, I didn't see why he had to apply for ILR, but I will opt for British passport for him once I get my ILR.
My question is, my boy and my husband is planning to go for a camping in USA (all of us has US visa), and my question is whether he can travel overseas and back to UK without me joining them.
My Tier 1 visa is actually valid until September 2013. But I assume it will cease to exist once I get ILR (and then what is the status for my son?)
Hope someone can shed me some lights.
