my sister still waiting for the acknowledgement letter

my sister had been dating a french guy for some time n decided to get married. She submitted her eea application somewhere in October 2012 n she ain't received anything from the home office. Not even the acknowledgement letter. She was told the application takes 2-6 wks but is been more that n is really frustrating the whole family. Happy with sam advice and good suggestions. Have they gone wrong.

An EEA2 application can take up to 6 months to process. However, she should have received a certificate of application by now. Worth writing to the UKBA to chase this.

Hard to tell. She should contact them. They should have provided the COA "immediately"

My sister's lawyer called the ho this wk and they said they have sent the coa lettet time ago but the lawyer ain't got any copy of the letter. She needs the letter for her ni. Can i get any helpful suggestion. Thanks

Did the lawyer not offer any helpful suggestions? Did the lawyer ask how long ago it was sent, where it was sent or what class of mail? If it is an unreasonable amount of time (i.e. it's gone missing) - the lawyer, or your sister should ask the UKBA to re-issue to COA - from what I've read in other posts here, it's best to send a letter (and always best to do it by recorded delivery).

From what I have heard the ukba don't issue another coa letter till the 6 months period.

How long will it take for Christmas them to send another coa letter since the first one has been lost in the post and nowwhere to be found. Helpful suggestions

Either can call - I guess the difference being, that the lawyer would charge to make the phone call.

A COA should not be a requirement for obtaining a National Insurance number. ID yes , evidence of spouse's nationality (such as his passport) yes, marriage certificate yes , evidence that spouse is a qualified person in some cases yes that will be required, however requiring a certificate of Application is a complete 'red herring'! This is especially so since there is no requirement/obligation to obtain a residence document.

Bonita, I just re-read your earlier posts...and I'll ask my questions again - when the lawyer spoke to the UKBA, and they said they had issued the COA, didn't the lawyer tell them then that it was never received? How long ago did they say it was issued? Did the lawyer not request it be re-issued? If the lawyer didn't find out any of this information, I do hope your sister isn't paying for the lawyer!

If obtaining ni number is so urgent then better to request back the passport for ni interview that won't affect the case. OR request duplicate coa by writing and explain the reason and ask for its priority by attaching a prepaid envelope.

Can you believe the lawyer is telling my sister that if she calls the ukba, it will affect her application due to the fact that they have issued the letter and is no where to be found. We all worried. What can we do now. My sister needs da letter to sort her ni out before she becomes homeless. Plz help

Time for a new lawyer? Was the lawyer able to explain how this would affect the application? Can you be sure the lawyer didn't lose the COA themselves???
