BRP

Post by wanna_bee » Wed Jan 30, 2013 10:25 pm

Hi All,

What's a Biometric Residence Permit exactly? Is it a separate card? Or something that gets stamped on your passport?

Is BRP different from ILR or are they the same ?

Also, when ones ILR is approved do the HO issue an approval letter?

Regards,

It is a seperate ID card which reflects your current immigration status in it, whether this is a time restricted visa or indefinite leave to remain. It's similar in appearance to a driving licence. It has a chip which holds your biometric details such as fingerprints. Your passport no longer holds your immigration status as a stamp. You must carry your BRP along with your passport when travelling outside of the UK, as it will be what you use to prove your right to enter & remain in the UK.

Thanks for your reply cs95tdg!

So this means nothing gets stamped on our passport for ILR. So if ILR was approved in a PEO, then do we get our passport back immediately? And if ILR was approved does the PEO issue an approval letter?

Also what happens if PEO decides to take more time for taking decision or put on postal queue, do they hold onto our passport?

(just trying to understand the ILR process at PEO)

They give your passport back along with the approval letter. But it says that do not book anything until your BRP arrive.

It happens rarely that you will be put on to postal application queue, normally they apply 7 day rule for applicants to provide the sufficient docs that are missing to be sent to them within 7 days.
