Passport expiration affecting Tier 1 Visa (General) extensio

Post by ChaitanyaS123 » Fri Feb 01, 2013 4:55 pm

Hello,

I am applying for my tier 1 extension and I have an appointment on
12th Feb 2013. This is an extension which would be for 3 more years as
initial application gave me a grant for 2 years.
This means if I get an extension that would be till 12th Feb 2016 (or
11th Feb 2016). Although my passport is expiring on 20th Jan 2016.
Can you let me know how would this affect my application?
Would UKBA provide me a visa till 20th Jan 2016 or would they reject
my application?

Appreciate if you can let me know the details regarding this.

Although is it not at all associated with my passport ? Isn't there any record of my passport on my BRP ?

YOu will need to change this as well. People sometimes lose documents or documents get expired like in your case etc. so there is a an adequate procedure in place to carry over all the information from one document to another. YOu still have a few years left on the document so there is nothing you can do now anyway.

Dont worry and good luck with application.

all your details on the passport are encoded in the machine readable bar code on BRP

you need to have a valid passport at the time of application

going by your dates, passport expiry should be the least of your worries

Thanks Manka. But I am confused as it sounds a bit contradicting, if you are saying that passport details are encoded in brp then they won't provide me a brp till feb 2016 , either they will give till jan 2016 or won't accept ? Or am I understanding it wrong. Sorry just trying to understand and remove all small doubts .

It doesn't matter as even when you get your new passport you will always be carrying the old passports with u.
Thanks!

No, it won't affect your application. Your LTR will be endorsed on your BRP and not your passport. They will not limit your LTR period to end at the time of your passport expiry date (I.e. the two are independent). When your passport expires, renew or get a new one as you would normally do. Then after that, all you would do is carry your BRP with your current passport when travelling.

I hold a passport with 2013 expiry and a BRP with 2015 expiry.
Edit: and I just crossed Heathrow 5-days back.

Old or New passport are irrelevant for visa leaves of any country.
A visa vignette in old passport is valid across the world. No vignette transfer is not needed.

Cheers..
