Indian passport surrender and OCI

Hi,
I have got my naturalisation and applied for british passport.
I had been asked by my company to go to India for 6 months. Please let me know if I can travel in my Indian passport once to go to India and then do the surrender and OCI application from India.

My understanding is that although you can apply for OCI from India, surrender Certificate can only be obtained from UK.
