Surrender Certificate and OCI

Post by legendlu » Fri Feb 08, 2013 11:24 am

Hi,
I have got my naturalisation and applied for british passport.
I had been asked by my company to go to India for 6 months. Please let me know if I can travel in my Indian passport once to go to India and then do the surrender and OCI application from India.
Thanks,
Venky

Yes, technically you can do that but it'll be quite a complicated and bureaucratic process. You'll probably spend a good amount of your time visiting FRRO offices.

I would travel with my Indian passport, return with the same and then surrender in the UK. A penalty of 145 quid would be payable on surrender but otherwise it will be a simple straight forward process.
