Earliest date for citizenship application

Post by argyle_estate » Sat Dec 22, 2012 12:39 pm

I received my ILR on 18th Jan 2012 - could you advise if it will be ok for me to submit the application at NCS on 17th Jan 2013 so that UKBA receives it on 18th Jan 2013?

I was out of the UK from 22nd Jan 2008 - so to meet the residence requirements, UKBA need to receive my application by 21st Jan 2013.

Could you please confirm? Thanks.

That's fine. Just make sure NCS are also aware of the dates.

I am in the same situation and additionally for work related reasons I have to be away, two days after I become eligible. I want to submit my application to NCS a day before (e.g got ILR on 02 March 2012, submit application to NCS on 01 March 2012 to hopefully get to UKBA by the 2nd or 3rd March). I then have to be out of the country leaving on the 4th March.
Has anyone done this, or know of any one who has and was it an issue.

Thanks for the quick response.
Out of curiosity, I'm interested to know where it officially states that you have to be in the UK when your application is received by the UKBA. There are lots of references to the requirement of being in the UK 3 / 5 years before the date of application, but I have searched a lot and have not found that requirement (but it is mentioned by may ppl and the NCS). The only vaguely related material I found is the below info. Can anyone one indicate where the requirement to be in the UK where the application is received is listed.
Thanks

From 16 July 2012 applicants outside the UK must send their application to the UK Border Agency in the UK. British Nationality regulations have changed the way applications made outside the UK are submitted and processed.......With effect from 16th July onwards if you are applying from outside the UK you must now send your application form to the following address:

UK Border Agency

PO BOX 306

Liverpool
L2 OQN

United Kingdom

Thanks for viewing. I found it in 6.3.2.2.

The application goes to the Home Secretary if you are in the UK, and the the Sec of state at the Home Office if you are outside.

This is no longer a requirement UNLESS you are travelling to Hong Kong and some other British Overseas territories.
