India passport Surrender and OCI Doubt

Do we get the Indian passport cancelled and returned to us along with the surrender certificate from VFS/HCI?


Also, For OCI, do we need to need to submit the British passport as well while OCI application is being processed. If not then when does HCI ask for the British passport to apply the lifelong visa sticker on the British passport.

After the status website says OCI is granted and available at the HCI, you submit passport one morning and collect it that evening.
