SC clearance

how does one apply for security clearance? many contracting jobs ask for sc clearance, is this done by the client or are there third parties who do this?

In India this is done by the passport office.

To the best of my knowledge, if you are not already security cleared your employer should be willing to facilitate the process. You cannot do so on your own. All that a potential employer should ask is if you are willing to undergo one.

SC clearance is normally done by the Ministry of Defence throught the Defence vetting agency (DVA). It is normally sponsored by the employer.
