Can child travel from UK to India without a passport?

Hello people,

I am on Tier1 General visa. My little one was born here in the UK. I know he doesn't need a passport for air travel within the UK.

I am aware he will need a visa (and a passport) when he re-enters UK.

But will he need a passport to travel to India ? Does international travel mandate it?

Please advise.

I believe if you are making Indian passport application for newborn in India, you need to get document from HCI/CGI in this regards which becomes travel document to reach India without passport for newborns.

Better check on official website of HCI/CGI where you reside.

He will need a recognized travel document.

Thanks for that Mauser and Vinny. I also confirmed today from another colleague that it is indeed mandatory that the child needs an passport to travel outside the uk.
