Query: Surname in HSMP application.

Post by Reshma » Thu Mar 22, 2007 3:41 pm

Hello,

Question No.3 of the HSMP application is asking for Surname/family name.
The same question (surname) is there in the very first page of the application.

I don't have any surname in my passport.
That field is blank.

If I mention my family name here, will they give the HSMP in <FULL NAME + FAMILY NAME>
Will this be a problem while applying for visa?

Now what will I do in the application form.

It's a mistake of Passport authority, you can write a letter to passport authority in Bangalore to include your surname. They will either add your surname on existing passport or may issue another passport with surname.

Please note having surname is absolutely necessary on your passport because you will be required to mention your surname on;

1. HSMP Application
2. EC
3. Opening a Bank A/c in UK
4. NIS
5. FLR

There may be atleast 100 Reshma's in UK!

this problem can be sorted out if:

1.you have the birth certificate from the municipal corporation
2.you have ure class x marksheet
3.you have your IT return and the pan card/voters id
4.you can get the letter from the passport authority about this
5.get a affadavit made with approval from ure parents and get thr signatures on them.
6.you can get the letter from ure community whr they mention that keeping names in such manner is acceptable.

I hope this will help

My name in India is Rajeev J A which means Rajeev J Anand. Here Anand is my dad's name and is entered as surname in passport. My actual surname Jaganmohan is not used anywhere.

When I was in the UK, I was called Mr.Anand.

So, I believe, as long as your records have a reference to the name and your passport also has it, it shouldn't be a problem.

But if the surname field is blank on the passport, it's better to get it entered correctly. Hope that helps.
