Has the new fee increase been approved?

Post by tulipz » Fri Mar 22, 2013 12:19 pm

I've been checking UKBA site. No mention of new fees in the 'cost' section. A proposed document is hidden somewhere in the news section...

My question is - can they suddenly implement new fees on 6-Apr - given that it wasnt properly communicated well in advance ?

Can someone please shed light on this ?

Who says it wasn't properly communicated in advance?

I don't like the increase, but it was communicated in advance

As the fee is going to increase, there will be a rush of applications before start of 06-April-2013 and that will create a huge back-log, like in 2011, when the tier-1 was about to be closed.

I believe that has already started because my application was delivered to them last Wednesday but the debit card deduction happened on Friday. Is this normal?

You make a valid point but it wont be as bad as 2011. Last year it was not that bad.

Since most of the application now would be for extensions, I don't think people have much choice as they won't risk applying early and then go for 2nd extension. So expect rush but not that much.

Your fee deduction time is also not that bad. Should have been deducted on Thursday but happened on Friday. So relax. Expect the same amount of time as other people. Good Luck with your application.

What do you define well in advance? A day, a week, a year? And then, what do you define as "properly"? A newspaper ad, a pamphlet to every house, a TV campaign?

As far as I'm concerned, there's been proper communication about the proposed fee increase with enough notice.
Do not send me PM's with specific questions - post question in the open forum so others can also benefit from the answers.

As far as i'm aware, the fees will increase on 6 April - we will also probably get new application forms to download that reflect the new prices. Irritating thing is it went up in April 2012 AND Dec 2012... We don't really have a choice - we just have to pay

We might not have control over the fee increases but the least we can do is demand answers from UKBA, MP's, immigration minister as to where's the limit and let them know how severely this affects the thousands of honest hardworking families who are more than doing their bit in contributing to the UK economy.

We are planning to challenge this increase in court if need be, otherwise everyone should be prepared for more brutal increases in future as the message will be 'they (UKBA) can do what they want and no one cares to question/challenge'

Do you know, that prior to 2003, ILR was FREE!!! Fees were introduced in April 2003 at £155.00 Iinfo taken from Wiki), and it has very steadily gone up each year. I started saving for this a few years back and was budgeting on needing about £3,000.00. The amount I now need for my family of four at PEO office is £5,100. It's crazy but we have no choice, we want to live here so we have to pay the fee.

The July 1 footnote is specifically related to Premium Scheme Tier 4 Sponsors 1. The other fees are all labeled to start April 6.
