children born outside UK

Hi,
I am asking this query on behalf of my friend.
1. His child, 9 years old now, was born in India. He came to UK when he was 2 years old. My friend and his family got Indefinite leave to remain in Dec 2011. They are applying for naturalisation. On filling MN1 form, we dont know what to fill for section 1.1, which is asking to indicate the section of the British Nationality Act 1981 under which we would like our application tobe considered. Is it section 3(1).
