tekaweni, thanks...and good luck to your son!

Music, I wouldn't worry. I presume you supplied your marriage certificate, as you are applying as the spouse of a British citizen? This document is sufficient to prove the link between your 'old' name and your 'new' name.

Also, it is my understanding that they will contact you if they require more information, rather than turning down your application outright.

Good luck!

Hi everyone,

I applied in the beginning of September 06. It is now nearly 7 months, meanwhile I have received the letter of acknowledgement as well as the character checking letter.

I really don't understand this character checking, and why it takes so long. I previously applied for Developed Vetting and got approval in much less time. For those who don't know DV allows you to work inside the Ministry of Defence. I would have thought that takes higher security clearance than the BC.
Any ideas on what we can do to find out where our applications are in this slow process?

thanks

I did, see here. I sent the certificate back three weeks ago today and still haven't heard from them. Someone in the past wrote about the same problem and he was reportedly able to speed things up by writing to his MP.

If you want to reply it's probably better if you do so in my thread, since it may be slightly off topic here.

Guys, NCS seems to be the way forward! We have a large majority of NCS applicants here who have turned their applications around in 2 - 4 weeks.
In a few years time we'll look back on immigration control like we look back on American prohibition in the thirties - futile and counter-productive.

Dawie,

That is sooo true. I wish I'd use them. Did a postal appl. on the 20 Feb and am still waiting. Looks like I'll only hear back in April or May if I'm lucky. I was planning on booking a holiday in June to Spain, but don't want to chance it. Other option is to just book and use SA passport, but then there's the visas, etc.

I can kick myself right now.... :(

Cheers

Guys,
I was doing some googling and found this wonderful forum.
Let me tell you my story.
I could have applied for Naturalisation in October 2005 but somehow didn't do it. Just like Desperado... I also wasted 18 month but better late than never.

When I came to know that they are going to increase the fee I applied today through post (Home office said they have yet to decide on fee and they will make decision on or after 2nd April)
I know NCS are quite quick; my friends of similar profile got it within 3 weeks and oath on 4th week. I couldn't get any appointment in any of NCS so sent my application by post.

I don't want to send them my passport and driving license. (lady in life in uk took my license instead my passport to verify me and as per guidelines I have to submit identity which I used in life in the uk)
I got photocopies of all pages of my passport and got it verified by solicitor.
So license, pay slip copy, letter from employer that I am in job for years and
Council statement as address proof.

I know they do credit check.
Last month when I check my credit files I found that my name is in one of the credit referencing agency and missing from another (Equifax and Experian)
I know if they approach to credit search agency where my name isn't there they might do some more check and that might delay my application. So I attached my council bill (guess a smart move here)
And thought that payslip might help them to quicken things.

I would like to ask 2 questions to my friends here.
1) I don't know any British doctor or lawyer. I kept on moving places every 6 month or a year so can't find any.
On call centre recommendation I gave my colleague and manager's reference.
Has anyone had gone through similar situation?

2) Is anyone on 4yrWP + 1yr ILR out there who sent application by post with Indian passport? Any idea how much time it took?

3) Anyone submitted document verified by solicitor? Do home office ask for original again or does photocopy delay things?

I know it is different from case to case and from case worker to case worker. With this 2nd April deadline I guess there will be lots of application this week which effectively put my case in a long queue but just a matter of curiosity I wanted to know how much time it might take.

Waiting and waiting.......

Post by riccy72 » Mon Apr 02, 2007 7:33 pm

previously posted in the wrong place.... :?

I have been waiting for nearly 7 months now. Here is my case:

Postal or NCS: Postal
Date of submission or posting : 9 Sep 2006
CRITERIA - 5yrs ILR
Date of debit of debit/credit card: 14 Sep 2006
Date on acknowledgement Letter: 14 Sep 2006
Date of receipt of acknowledgement Letter: 16 Sep 2006
Date of receipt of approval : Waiting
Date of Ceremony:

I received a letter from them on 15th Nov 2006 returning all my documentations stating that they are now waiting for the character enquiries. I have been calling the enquiry line since beginning of Feb (every 2 weeks) as it went over 4 months average processing time. Each time when I called them and asked for the progress, they always replied that they are waiting for the external check to come back. I don't know how much longer will this take?? When asked, the Helpdesk basically told me that there is nothing that they or I can do about this. All I can do is to wait. Is this normal? Is there really nothing I can do to accelerate the process?

It's really frustrating........

Hiya,
Sorry to hear your case but look at the positive site. No news is a good news.
Please don't take it otherwise but see this is a govt department and we all know the issues with that. Even though they are accountable even though there is more transperency these days but there isn't much u can do.
Do you think there is any reason your case could delay.
For example not registered with voter list / any outstanding issue with tax or ni / self employment.
If this si external company then the first thing I could think of is credit history but this is done by Experian / Equifax and they both are prompt so I reaqlly can't say much.
However I wish you all the best

Frankly, I would rather they reject me and give me a reason. So that I can deal with it.....

I don't really think there should be issues. I worked for the same company in the past 5 years. I moved twice, but that's not a lot, is it? I don't have credit issue because I know my credit rating. I can't register on the voter's list because I am not from the common wealth countries. My referees are both British and born British. I don't have criminal record apart from a traffic offence which I reported on the application form. I really think that my case should be straight-forward. The only thing that I can think of is that I go to France regularly (about twice a month but only for the weekend for the past year). Apart from this, I really cannot think of any other issue........

I do wish that the immigration officer can explain exactly what they are waiting for............ :(
