WPA XS Comprehensive Sickness Insurance for self-sufficient

Post by enic » Fri Apr 05, 2013 9:59 am

Hi everyone!

I'm sure this question has been asked a lot, but I would like to get
some up-to-date information on CSI.
As the descriptions are very vague, it's hard to tell which private
plan would be considered comprehensive without risk of rejection.

We've just got our RC for 5 years and as my non-EU husband is
supporting us since I was made redundant, we've considered getting
CSI to cover any time I am going to be "between employment" as
self-sufficient, to make sure this time gets counted as well.

We would get CSI solely for our PR 5 years later, so we don't want
to pay too much, just the bare minimum that would be sufficient.
Having said that, it would be a real shame if we wasted all that money
paying for insurance policy for 5 years just to have it rejected later.
I'm sure many of us have faced a similar dilemma.

I've looked at WP XS and it seems to have worked for many applicants in the past.
It's affordable for us and I'd be grateful for any feedback from people
who've used this CSI for their self-sufficient or student applications.

Or, if there's a more trustworthy alternative for the similar price,
please share it here.

Thank you!

The guideline regarding CSI suggests that the private health insurance must cover in majority of circumstances. Therefore, if the plan covers in most of the health related issues then it should be fine.

Thanks for replying sheraz7. The thing is, "health insurance must cover in majority of circumstances" is still very open to interpretation. For example, the one I was planning to go for has the following coverage:
  • Extensive cover of £150,000 per person per year for specialist and hospital cover across the UK
    Unique rolling excess of £1,500
NOT COVERED:
  • Any medical conditions you had when you took out the policy (pre-existing conditions) unless declared to and accepted in writing by WPA
Eligible treatment up to your excess and any treatment costs over the annual limit of £150,000
Cancers diagnosed or for which symptoms or signs develop within the first 90 days of the policy commencing, unless agreed in writing by WPA (applies to new policyholders of WPA)
Any long-term illnesses that lead to long-term monitoring or management (chronic conditions)
Dental problems (unless the Dental Cover Extra is chosen)
    Fertility problems, pregnancy & childbirth
    Neonatal treatment
    Psychiatric conditions
    HIV/AIDS
    Cosmetic surgery
Care and/or treatment arising from or related to taking part in winter sports (e.g. skiing, snowboarding), scuba diving, motor sports or engaging in professional sport
Any claim that has not been pre-authorised
That's quite a list, but I'm assuming that most policies don't cover these conditions and UKBA caseworkers don't expect them to be covered.

Does this insurance sound "comprehensive" enough for the purpose of CSI?

There is no plan which is 100% comprehensive. Most often plans give full cover for inpatient treatment and keep some limits on outpatient treatment. But pre-existing conditions are always excluded from plan for some time. So any plan which provide in most of the health related issues regardless of the title must work.
