UK unmarried partner visa query

Post by jwpfeiffer » Sat Mar 31, 2007 8:06 am

Hi… I’m wondering if someone could advise me on the likelihood of being approved for an unmarried partner visa with my British partner of 3 years. I’m an Australian who has been in the UK for nearly 2 years on a working holiday visa (expires May 07). We have only been co-habiting since I arrived in the UK but I’m concerned about our levels of documentation for the first months I was here. I had my Australian credit card statements delivered to our UK address from when I arrived here and have documents from a UK bank and also regarding National Insurance etc thereafter but we didn’t add my name to water/electricity or any other bills for around 12 months. I understand that without such evidence the success of an application is at the discretion of the home office. We set up a joint account after 10 months and have 2 to 3 pieces of evidence of co-habitation each for every month of the whole period. We also live in my partner’s 1 bedroom flat which she owns. Is this likely to be enough to satisfy their requirements? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

From what I can gather, the more well presented, clear, evidence you can show the better.

I am British and my girlfriend is Australian, we are looking at a similar scenario to you. There are 3 links I've come accross that could be useful:

Section 13.14 may help to clarify -

This one tells of a successful Aussie/UK combination -

Maybe section 2 of this could be useful for you?

Best of luck, Mark

Hi Mark... Thanks for the links. They are certainly useful and provide some reassurance. I've been consulting 1st contact quite a lot about the strength of our application and have sent them an index of our evidence. Still waiting for their feedback.... may end up throwing money at them to sort it out. Not cheap at £1400 for the fast track though! Good luck with your application.

Thanks
Justin
