New Zealand Income Tax Return

Post by Kiwi Pro » Sun Jan 21, 2007 1:58 am

Anyone from NZ with HSMP approval?

Please advise on the exact document (Income Tax Return) to be submitted as proof of PAST EARNINGS.

I am currently in Permanent Employment in NZ with automatic income tax deductions from my payroll (PAYE - PAY as you EARN).

Will the IRD send me the relevant document at the end of TAX year or do I have to apply for one?

Income Tax Return is only issued for the financial year ended April, if your income claimed period does not cover that period, you might not want to use it as your proof. In that case use Bank statement and employer reference as alternatives.

I called the NZ IRD and asked them to send me out a letter stating my income for the tax year to date, which I sent in attached to my personal tax summary for the previous tax year. The HSMP team seemed to accept that.

They however, did not accept my employer not having an official stamp as an acceptable reason for exceptional circumstances for my payslips not being stamped and signed and outright REFUSED (even on appeal) to consider any of the additional evidence I had sent in (letter from employer, bank statements).

They are really the most frustrating and bone-headed people I've ever come across. Don't take anything for granted with them.

Good luck with your application :)

HSMP approval is all about managing to acquire all "Evidence Required" which in many cases is almost impossible.

"Exception Consideration" is an eyewash.

The reason has to be strong enough such War or Natural Disaster, and documented evidence of the same.

Any HSMP approvals with Exceptional Consideration???

I just had my second application approved. The evidence of previous earnings I supplied were:

Twelve months of payslips (stamped and signed by employer).
Personal Tax Summary for the 2005-2006 tax year.
A letter from IRD stating income for the 2006-2007 tax year to date.
A letter from my employer confirming salary earned for the period.
Bank statements showing salary paid for the period.

As outlined in the updated HSMP FAQ I requested exceptional consideration due to income tax return not covering period (and used the 2005-2006 tax return as evidence to support the request).

Hi,

I'm also trying to find out the exact New Zealand IRD document that meets the definition of "income tax return".

I figure it will be either
- Summary of Earnings, or
- Personal Tax Summary

Anyone else have any experience with this?

Lysergik I note your comment about the letter from IRD; that could be really useful, thanks. If possible though I want to avoid claiming exceptional circumstances and sending multiple IRD documents to keep it as simple as possible.

My plan is to send the Summary of Earnings (because it is sent out before the Personal Tax summary). This will be backed up with the other evidence - stamped/signed payslips, bank statements, letter from employer.

Cheers

Hi All,

fellow kiwi here,

I just got my approval using my NZ salary

Hi Guys, anyone from New Zealand who has got EC approved?

I just got HSMP approval recently and I am now preparing for the EC.
Not sure how long will it take for EC in New Zealand?

From my research, I have the following understanding, correct me if I am wrong:

1) I have to fill VAF1 form and my partner needs to fill VAF2.

2) Do we need a bio tech version of Password?

Thanks

Hi Unprinciple,

First of all congratulations on your HSMP approval, I guess this was your third application and you got it, well done.

I am sorry I can't answer your queries, it's better to check with BHC Wellington.

Could you please tell me
when did you apply your HSMP application,
process time,
Royal Mail delivery time OR did you arrange a couirer pick up in UK.

I applied on 26/03/07 from Auckland, I got mail saying that a decision is made, I am bit worried about my docs. Any input from your side will be helpful.

Good luck on your EC.

Thanks

I am new to NZ.

The Personal Tax Summary (for the tax year 2007) is issued in late June.

Do you know how LATE in the month of JUNE, the same is sent.

Before 20 June or after 20 June

My earnings period is 1 April 2006 - 31 March 2007. I have to ensure that my application with all documents reach HO latest by 30 June 2007.

Hi Musafir

Yes this is my third application, that's why I was not so excited about the approval, kind of been too frucstrated by the previously failures.

Anyway, here are the answers to your questions:
===when did you apply your HSMP application,
Application sent: 19/March/2007
Application delivered: 27/March/2007
Approved: 11/April/2007
Received: 20/April/2007
===process time,
2 weeks
===Royal Mail delivery time OR did you arrange a couirer pick up in UK.
I didn't arrange pick up in UK.

Hope this helps.

I will contact BHC sometime, will share my exp with you guys if you like.

Cheers
