visa status update online

How soon is the visa status updated online? is it done as soon as visa is granted or is there a time lag? Also, is there any other way to check the visa status apart from online tracking/sms service? if anyone has any info about the above, your reply will be much appreciated. Thanks.

hi friends,

the visa status has changed from "under process" to "application being sent to the application center, pl wait until it is ready for collection"….as my parents have a booked tkt already, we were trying to know asap how long does it take for the status to change from thisto "ready for collection"?

if anyone has any info based on personal experience, do share…will highly appreciate it…thnx!

z18runway…thanks for asking…yeah..still waiting..i just posted the change in status…do u have an idea about the q i asked?…time taken from "being sent" sttatus to "ready for collection"….my parents dont live in kolkata, so they have to make travel arrangements as well for that…and hence i wanted to get some more info…thanx 4 ur help..

hi everyone,

thanks for chipping in with your valuable advice n experience…my parents got their visa…below is the timeline….hope it helps future applicants

visa category- family visitor visa

applied (kolkata, india)- 5th april (old visa fees)

application under process- 5th april

sms received for above- 6th april; 9pm IST(altho it was sent on 5th april itself; online status was updated on 5th april itself)

application being sent to application center, please wait until it is ready for collection- 24th april (no sms got; online status updated around 2:50pm ist)

passport ready for collection- 25th april; (online status updated n sms received around 3:30 pm ist)

time taken- 15 working days (including the date of application)

I was told since I was in the US I could not do an online status update. Weird? So hopefully your not in the states.

im not sure about applications for uk visa, from the vfs/embassy in US…. …the status update i mentioned was of my parents, who have applied in india…n hence gone thru the vfs in india n there online status update does happen...
