Financial Requirements for Spouse

One of my friend has been registered as Self Employed for last 4 months.He did register as self employed in December 2012 .He had his ILR and want to apply spouse visa for his wife.

He did submit tax return for £19000.His actual tax year was April 2012-April 2013 he did submit 4 months (Dec 12-Apr 13) tax return on due date.....my question is can he use 4 months as a Financial Year for the UK Border requirements?????

Why are you using the auxiliary verb did to indicate the past, rather than just the past tense of the verb?
