I will be using this thread to pull together all the relevant immigration requirements, sample documents, Learnings from cases, cover letters etc to benefit all those interested in ILR application about this period. Hopefully, Can be used by others for sometime in future.

Me: Tier 1 General
Wife:Tier 1 Dependent
Kid: Born here
Initial visa granted: 12/08/2008
Entry: 26/08/2008
Current visa expiry: 12/08/2013
Apply on/after: 17/07/2013 (for 28 days)

Break in continuous stay:
22 Feb 2010 - 26 Feb 2010
24 May 2013 - 10 Jun 2013

Hi thanks for this post. Quick question:

I am due for ILR by end of August 2013 and need to understand what you mean by "6. Covering letter stating no absences less than 180 days in each year
No absence letter was asked."

I recently traveled to Paris on company work and spent only 3 days there and since I came to UK in 2008, this is the only place I have traveled to.

Does it mean i must present a letter from office showing absence in UK?

Exemption because of your age

If you are under 18 years old or at least 65 years old, you are exempt from the KOL requirement. When you apply for settlement, you should send us your passport or birth certificate as evidence of your age.

If you are an English speaker (see below) and/or you are currently in the UK as a skilled or highly skilled migrant, you must pass the 'Life in the UK test'.

If you are not an English speaker and you are not a skilled or highly skilled migrant, you must pass a course in English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) which contains citizenship materials..

If you are unsure about whether you need to take the test, you can contact the Immigration Enquiry Bureau on 0870 606 7766.

In Summary,
Tier1 Main applicant: Must pass LIUK.
Other applicant: Either LIUK or ESOL.

It does seem that even short periods of absence on annual leave need to be substantiated.

Absences must be connected to the applicant’s sponsored or permitted employment, or the permitted economic activity being carried out in the UK, for example, business trips or short secondments. This also includes, if appropriate, any paid annual leave. Evidence in the form of a letter from the employer setting out the reasons for the absences, including annual leave, must be provided.

No need to apply for ILR now, but can apply for Citizenship when parents get ILR.

When you book your premium appointment online you will need to then call the immigration enquiry bureau by 3pm on the next working day to pay an appointment fee of £100 per applicant in order to confirm your appointment. If you do not make payment within this timescale, your appointment will be cancelled.

No hassle at all in booking. Booked today for 23rd July 2013.
Called up the center for paying the appointment fee. Long wait. About 20 mins. Will know whether the fund was cleared in 5 days time.

Used to have an opinion of how immigrants are treated in Croydon, enforced by numerous youtube vids and the person who handled us during LIUK.
But the PEO staff were very friendly, engaged in small talk and some funny comments - Be it at the Fees payment, BRP, document collection or return.

Took 2 hours for processing.
