MN1 application - current passport expired

wondering if anyone else had a similar situation. I am applying for my son's registration as British citizen and only just noticed his current Indian passport has expired 2 months ago.

Does he need to have a valid passport inorder to apply for British citizenship? Logic says 'not needed', but UKBA doesn't always consider logic

Please see http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitec ... de_mn1.pdf pages 29-30, the passport need not be valid.

thanks for your response. The information in those pages doesn't actually state if the passport needs to be valid or otherwise. Is your answer based on prior experience?
