UKBA technical issues July/August 2013

Post by Victoriajam » Mon Aug 05, 2013 8:58 pm

Does anybody know about any IT/printing issues at the moment that prevent the UKBA to print residence cards? And if so, when are they going to be resolved?

We are in email contact with the HO who have issued our rc in July but cannot send it to us due to a technical fault.

Ask them if you can collect in person if it's urgent and let us know so we could do the same.

It wasn't specifically said what is the problem but it sounds like it has to do with printing the cards. Decisions can still be made and documents (i.e. passports for travelling) can still be returned as normal.

Hi Victor, this makes a lot of sense to me as was promised my card a couple of weeks ago. Do keep us posted on when they manage to resolve their printing issues. I have quite a lot riding on receiving my residence card before the 13th Aug so hoping for the best.

Demand that they issue it now. They can do it on A4 paper. They can not ever take more than 6 months from the day they receive the application.

i personally think issuing is A4 paper is extra headache. Many countries in the EU don't accept it so better wait for it stamp in the Passport

I travel quite a lot (Backpacking) and the thought of lumping an A4 piece of paper around makes me shudder. I emailed them today and they told me to expect this within 2 weeks (as of today 6th Aug) so I imagine the issues are fixed/being fixed.

Will keep you guys posted. Personally I find that 'demanding' things when dealing with clerical govt officials can in most cases 'cause delays' so will refrain from doing so until I absolutely have no other choice.

This is not the normal situation. They must issue within 6 months.

But as usual, be sure to couch your demands in good positive ways.

Hi there,

I had to contact them as due to some special circumstances, I need my travel documents ASAP. i doubt they will let know know of any timelines if you purely contact them to check if they have made a decision or not.

there are a fair few email addresses listed on here

I believe the printing issue affects both RCs and Immigration status documents.

That they cannot find our passports anymore? What can we do with RCs but no passports?

I have confirmed the technical problem HO is having they are unable to print and send the outcome of the decision.
I was told this when I rang.

I'm guessing there was no indication on when these would be resolved? Reckon it's just a dodgy printer then and not the RC issuing side that has a problem.. Gotta love the home office. Will forward this to the press and see it it sticks.

No, they can issue RCs but that's not much help if they can't print them right? Or lose the passports on the way...

Lost passport is possibly my worst nightmare so DO-NOT even mention it   . Let's hope for the best on the printing front.

Victoria, I hope you'll get compensated for this disaster. Please take some action and don't accept this as normal!
