Hi, Do NCS keep the original Life in the UK certifcate? They kept ours......returned all other docs so not sure what is standard norm?

LIUK original kept by NCS is not an issue.

I think they should take copies and return all documents. Ask them to give it back.

Friends,

As per the rules the Original with stamp and signature needs to be submitted to the home office.

Sadly even at the NCS there are workers that are not aware of the procedures and rules.

There have been instances where they have certified the life in UK test and returned and in other cases where they have insisted on taking the originals.

The main purpose of this service was to cater to the needs of people who wanted to retain some of their original documents for e.g. passport for the purpose of travel and Driving Licence (which was used as evidence for the Life in UK test) to be verified and returned back to the applicant.

I would advise you not to ask them to return your life in uk test. You will be wasting your time and theirs too.

If you used the LIU.k test for settlement I.e. ILR, then you shouldn't even need to take the certificate to the NCS.

Dear Amber,

Yes ! Many Councils have websites explaining the purpose of NCS. Important personal documents like Passports, Marriage Certificates etc could be attested and the Originals returned.

As far as the Life in UK certificate goes once the candidate passes the exam an electronic copy is sent to the homeoffice. But the Person applying has to submit the original certificate with the stamp and signature of the examiner.

If this is submitted at the time of ILR there is no need to worry about it when applying for naturalisation.Just the appropriate checkbox needs to be checked on the Form AN.

Else if this was not submitted at the time of settlement(ILR) the original needs to be sent to the home office.

According to Bexley, this does seem to be required. However, the Home Office's insistence on retaining an original document does defeat the purpose of a checking service. Who will be responsible if it gets lost?

The real problem is there are jobsworths in most of the public services who do not know the rules. Their actions cause confusion.

In the past there have been cases where people who submitted copies of the Life in UK were rejected (they had lost the originals and had to re-take the test again).

Some NCS agents are adamant that you need to send the LIUK test certificate even if you have used it for settlement.

I'm sure they'll be as stubborn when it comes to the new test in October with the extra evidence, no doubt they'll need a 2 week training course to get their heads around it.

I'm EU, so I didn't have to apply for ILR; when I applied for B.C. they made a copy of my LIUK test and gave me the original back; even though, the folk at the LIUK test centre told me that I had to submit the original document; do you think I should send it to the HO or since it was certified by the NCS, it's fine?
