I thought my timeline for approval was pretty quick, I wasn't expecting anything till July, but the whole thing from posting it to receiving approval was exactly 2 months AND I paid by cheque which theoretically should have added another week. Maybe they are getting more efficient lol

How long does it take on average before the ceremony, does anyone know? Also do they send you an invitation, or do you have to call to book one? I haven't read the approval letter yet so I dunno if it says this in the letter.

Thanks.

I would like to point out that ur aproval is dated 9th may recd by you on 21st.
Thanks champion. Yeah, it was approved on 9th May, and I don't know why it took so long to reach me on 21st. However my good luck continues ;-). Phoned the local council today, and was told that I could attend the forthcoming ceremony this Friday (25th);-). They hold the ceremony once per month, but there'll be no ceremonies in July and August because they'll be extremely busy over the summer.

So the new update:

Great idea, many thanks :-). I haven't even paid any attention to the new rules for passport application. So is this 1 week service has to be submitted in person or allowed through Post Office?

Post office is always 2 weeks service
1 week is for applying in person to passport office
however
I am sure due to change of rule many people have already taken appointment with passport office and there will be hardly any left

champion, many thanks for your reminder. Just studied the information on the IPS website and then phoned the 24-hour Passport Telephone Service and successfully managed to book an appointment on Thursday 31st May for the Fast Track 1-week service, just one day before the new rule will be implemented. :D

It seems that I had extremely good luck in terms of applying for British Citizenship, in fact in every stage.

(1) Got my ILR at the beginning of March 2006, then a few days later the HO announced the new 5-year rule change.
(2) Then submitted my Naturalisation application on 28th March, 2007, just before the new immigration fees were implemented on 1st April.
(3) To be able to attend the ceremony within the same week of receiving my HO approval letter. This ultimately enables me to avoid the passport application interview by booking an Fast Track service appointment just one day before the new rule becomes effective.

Hope this good luck will continue, and I sincerely wish everyone here on this board good luck :)

I think the average would be meaningless. The actual amount of time delay to Citizenship Ceremony varies considerably. For example, here in Birmingham, the biggest local authority in the UK (indeed in Europe) they hold ceremonies on two days per month, and have a minimum of two separate ceremonies on each such day. At each ceremony they hand out 30 certificates.

However in more rural places it is undoubtedly the case that ceremonies are held much less frequently and might be much smaller affairs.

Which leads me to .... on the AN application form there is a space to nominate a different local authority area for your Citizenship Ceremony. That is not the place where you actually live. Consideration should be given to completing that section of the form if you live in a rural place but not that far from a big city. You could get your ceremony that much quicker.

...and indeed I did just that. I live in the sticks where ceremonies are few and far between so opted for my nearest big city (Glasgow) where they happen more frequently and got an early date.

I have just recieved my citizenship invitation today 24.05.07 and its dated 16.05.07. I called the LA who informed me they have not yet recieved my details as they only get mail once a week from HO , therefore should call next week :( .I then asked how often the ceremony was, and to my dismay informed its the last wednesday of the month. To think if i had got the letter last week, and they had my details i could have had ceremony yesterday..... :( . Anyway i am in no hurry, will keep u all informed.

For first adult passport applicants the waiting time for postal applications is given as 6 weeks, even with check and send.

Do appreciate this! .... which might explain why first passports are now going to take much longer than in the past.

Agree John but I am scared that my info will be on their record and open to anyone.
history suggests that many problem starts from insiders rather.
if my info is centralised identity thieves have to put less efforts.
it is like to make friendship with bigger evil to kill a small evil.

Most of the country dows police verification by visiting passport applicant's home and verify some document and if suspect visit their college / work place etc.
I think this should be a better way rather collecting individual's info centrally when it is not needed and open to abuse.
no problem with timeframe much.

Champion you are not needing to convince me about this. But of course I do not make the rules. The Government has decreed that is how it is going to be.

No, definitely not. I know Champion is also waiting and there's a few more people. The recent delays have not helped.

Just keep the faith.
