What an absolute disgrace to deny this man who put his life on the line for the UK.

Immigration Minister Liam Byrne has now said his case is "exceptional" and he will be granted a visa due to a "heroic record in the service of Britain".

If a VC only just, barely, makes someone's case "exceptional" by the squeakiest of margins then I guess not too many cases make it in via that particular route!

On a lighter note, seeing as it had a happy ending, a Readers Digest tailpiece:

A teacher is marking exam papers and one kid's answer to the Q "whats the highest award for Valour?" is "Nelsons column". The teacher says "how could I mark that answer wrong?"
If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always gotten
