shengen visa (to germany) application process

I am currently working under tier 2 general visa in uk.

i am planning on going to Germany for sight seeing etc.

can someone explain the process of acquiring german shengen visa.

how long is the process of submission of application in London? has anyone done it recently.

any help will be appreciated

how long normally does it take to submit an application at vfs. i will be travelling from outside london and need to know the time schedule etc to plan my journey. thanks
