Settling in Spain with Non-EU Spouse

Post by InTransit16 » Sat Nov 09, 2013 8:04 pm

Hi Guys,

Here is the a summary of my situtation;

  • Me = British Citizen
  • Non-EU Spouse from Yemen
  • Will apply to Spanish Embassy for 90-Day Short Stay visa
  • Once in Spain will apply for Residency Card for my wife

My questions are;
  • I am going there to basically to work as a Teacher for a few years, as I am qualified. Although I do not have a job offer ready to go to, how easy is it to get the residence for my wife within the first 3 months or should I have a job offer in order for the Spanish Immigration to approve?
  • I have around €20k+ in savings to take with me in order to settle for the first months. Do the Spanish Authorities require a certain amount of personal finance in order to approve my wife's residency?
Will greatly appreciate your feedback.

Thanks

I'm not really sure about this works but, in theory, they shouldn't be asking for proof of funds. However, someone else on this forum said that he was asked to show proof of having about 1300Euro per month to support him and his family. Never heard of Spain doing this.

Hope someone comes back to you about your question re: timings for residence documents. In theory they should issue residence documents within 6 months after application (so I've read) and, therefore, getting them within 3 months is very unlikely.

I've also read (though not sure where) that there are a lot of different steps in the Spanish residence process, e.g. getting your NIE ('foreigners number'?), registering at the Padron (Town Hall) etc.

Sorry I can't be of more help but hope that someone else comes to the rescue. I'm also interested in this question.

InTransit16: did you ever get any more info on this?
I'm interested in hearing about it too.
Spain is going to be my choice (for Surinder Singh)
