Change of circumstances

Recently I applied for renewal of my Indian passport at Indian High Commission (London) and they asked me to complete change of appearance form. I look almost the same as I used to ten years ago - but never mind.

Please can anyone tell me whether I need to inform UKBA of change of apperance. And what does "appearance" mean as I cannot find a proper description on UKBA website.

Need not inform UKBA about change of appearence. It will be taken care by them in next Visa extension.

For change of appearance, you should apply for a new BRP .

Policy guidelines, page 31 states,

Change of Circumstances
166. If during your stay under Tier 1
(General), you wish to amend:

• Your contact details; or
• Details of your criminal convictions; or
• Your representative’s details; or
• Your dependants details

Then you should fill out a change of
circumstances form which is available on
our website at http://www.ukba.homeoffice.
gov.uk/sitecontent/applicationforms/pbs/

This form should be sent to:

We will confirm that we have noted your
change of circumstances in a letter. You
should keep this letter with the original
documents from your application.

However, if your current grant of leave was
made by means of a Biometric Residence
Permit (BRP), you should not use the change
of circumstances form to notify us of any of
the following changes to your circumstances:

• Change of name
• Change of date of birth
• Change of nationality
• Change of gender
• Change of appearance

In these circumstances, you must make
an application for a new BRP, using the
application form BRP (RC), this can be
obtained from the Home Office website at

I have sent the change of circumstances form to UKBA (just had to give them new passport details) when should I expect to get a confirmation letter from them? Do they take several weeks or months?

I recently renewed my passport (Indian) at the Indian High Commission, London as it was about
to expire. I have sent my change of circumstances form with the new passport details to the
UKBA Sheffield Office on 18th December through special delivery.

I am on Tier 1 General visa.

I have not received a letter of confirmation/notification from the UKBA yet.

I intend to travel to Delhi, India on 17th January for a special occasion. Please could you
let me know if I can travel overseas and there will not be any problem re-entering the UK
under my new passport and current BRP without further confirmation /notification letter.

When I renewed my passport I had just to go to the Police registration office in London and they just updated my registration document without a fee.

I thought the process is just to go to a police station with your registration document and the new passport and the Tier1 card and they will do the changes.
