On Tier 2(G) visa but possibly marrying British citizen soon

Post by arsenal49 » Fri Nov 15, 2013 1:11 pm

I am currently on a tier 2 (general) visa.

I may be marrying a British citizen soon.

The date of expiry of my tier 2 (General) visa is approaching (1 year-ish, in Jan 2015).

I am wondering what is the best way going forward. Ideally, i would like to be free of work-limitations ie i dont want to be tied to one employer who can issue me with certificate of Sponsorship etc.

option A: should i extend my Tier 2 (General) (around Oct 2014-ish)

option B: should i apply for ILR (10-year) ( the earliest that can happen is in Oct 2014)

option C: should i apply for xyz visa based on my marriage to a british citizen.

I never thought about option C before so have minimal knowledge on it. Any help will be appreciated.

I am looking for the most cost-effective way too, considering the Home Office is high on drugs these days when setting application fees for any visa application really!!

If you are coming up to 10 years it does not matter if you switch or not, but switching will give you more employment freedom.

ILR based on 10 years will be good for you.

Why to go for Marriage Visa Then go for ILR then Nationality.

Go for ILR Then Nationality.

It was a comment made with regard to switching to spouse for the year or so that it takes to reach 10 years. It will mean you can change jobs sooner (but not much sooner).
